Winter hike at Lake Eibsee – first part

If you’re looking for an easy Nordic walking route, a place for a picnic with your family or just a really nice place to see in Bavaria, we’ve got the perfect idea – Lake Eibsee. This lake is located at the foot of Zugspitze, at 9km from the famous ski resort town Garmisch-Partenkirchen. With such neighbors this place can only be incredible.

We went there last December and walked for about 2 hours around the lake, with many breaks for pictures. The Eibsee trail has around 7km and is perfect for any time of the year.We walked clockwise around the lake, because this way you leave the best view for the last part of the way. Going around the lake doesn’t require any type of special equipment, because the trail is relative flat. The landscape looked absolutely gorgeous and the impressive white edges of Zugspitze made us stop many times to admire them and to take pictures.

After finishing the lap we got hungry and started looking for a restaurant. You’ll see more on that in the second part of this post.
