We continue today our Chritmas market tour with Christkindlmarkt, situated in the center of the city at Marienplatz. This is the oldest and most famous Christmas Market from München. As you can see from the pictures Christkindlmarkt is extremely crowded, especially on weekends.
On our way to Marienplatz
This is probably because of the location (Christkindlmarkt is situated in front of the city hall, close to the shops) or because of the giant Christmas tree and numerous Christmas stands. We admired all the possible gingerbread, Christmas decorations, had a glass of hot wine and wanted to head to the subway. That wasn’t very easy, because we got stuck and had to spend many unwanted minutes there. Some guys were smoking just in front of us in this crowded mass of people and it wasn’t a very pleasant feeling. In this congested place some people brought their dogs. This was actually funny and sad at the same time. The poor dogs had to “learn the hard way” what a Christmas market really means. But as you probably know by now if you hate crowded places, you shouldn’t go to the Christmas markets.
